Japanese Fundamentals (16+)
Our Fundamentals courses are designed to give you a solid foundation in Japanese by introducing essential language elements to support your continued learning. These courses are ideal for beginners, as well as intermediate learners seeking review and reinforcement. If you’ve studied Japanese before but still struggle with the basics, we’ll help you fill in those gaps and build confidence!
Beyond Fundamentals (16+)
Beyond Fundamentals is a course series mainly for upper beginning to intermediate learners who are ready to start using Japanese in more real-life situations. Building on the concepts in the Japanese Fundamentals series, this course focuses on practical application. Classes are conducted 50 – 90% in Japanese*, allowing students to develop language skills in a more immersive environment. The course uses selected chapters from Irodori: Japanese for Life in Japan (Elementary 1) as a foundation and is adapted for learners who already have some elementary knowledge. Completion of the Japanese Fundamentals series is recommended though not required (Check Expected Background Knowledge for each course).
* The amount of Japanese spoken in class varies by instructor. Please check each registration section for the estimated percentage of Japanese used
