Carving the Divine

Carving the Divine is an award-winning 2019 documentary directed by Yujiro Seki that explores the lives of Busshi (Buddhist sculptors) struggling to preserve a 1,400-year-old Japanese woodcarving tradition. The film showcases their dedication to creating sacred statues while battling modern, rapidly changing, and secular influences in Japan.

Join us for a film screening of Carving the Divine, directed by Yujiro Seki, followed by a Zoom Q&A session with the director.
