With over 50, 000 characters out there, learning Kanji feels daunting. But we’re here to break it down for you! In this three-part series workshop, we will start from square one, the basics of Kanji: its history, different types, radicals and reading systems. We will also discuss Joyokanji (regular-use kanji) and commonly used radicals as we explore and practice effective learning strategies. Plus, we will point you toward helpful online and offline resources. By the end of the workshop, you will see that learning Kanji is manageable and interesting! Though not required, knowledge of Hiragana will be helpful to fully grasp the lessons.

    1. Learn the basics of Kanji structure, radicals, and the “on – kun” readings.
    2. Learn how to look them up on Kanji dictionaries
    3. Become familiar with some of the most essential Kanji radicals(bushuu).
    4. Practice writing some basic Kanjis.
    5. Develop a repertoire of Kanji learning strategies.
