Preparing for JLPT (N5 – N3)
Getting ready for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)? Looking for self-study resources? Unsure which level to take? Look no further! This three-part series workshopwillguide you through understanding JLPT, the levels (N5 –N3) and test structures. You will also practice answering sample questions and receive study tips along with helpful resources.By the end of the workshop, you will know your level and have a clear goal with effective study strategies to succeed in taking the JLPT.
Part 1: General Overview of JLPT – Tuesday, January 14 7:00 – 8:10pm (CST)
Part 1 focuses on the what, when, and why of JLPT and additionally a little bit of the how to help students determine which test is suitable for them. Topics include:
✏️Understanding JLPT test: what, when, and why
✏️What to expect from the test (test environment)
✏️The N5, N4, & N3 tests: What they measure
✏️The test structures
✏️Practice questions
✏️Resources: Workbooks, Apps, Websites and online classes
Part 2: How to prepare for JLPT kanji, vocabulary, and grammar – Tuesday, January 21 7:00 – 8:10pm (CST)
Part 2 focuses on the test taking strategies and how to best prepare for the learning Kanji and Japanese vocab for JLPT. Topics include:
✏️How you will be tested on your knowledge of Kanji, Grammar, and Vocabulary
✏️How to self-study
✏️Practice questions
✏️Resources
Part 3: How to prepare for JLPT listening and reading comprehension – Tuesday, January 28th 7:00 – 8:00pm (CST)
Part 3 focuses on the test taking strategies and how to best prepare for listening and reading comprehension for JLPT. Topics include:
✏️How you will be tested on listening and reading
✏️How to self-study
✏️Practice questions
✏️Resources

Grace Chalker Texas born and raised, Grace graduated from the University of North Texas with degrees in Linguistics and Japanese. She spent a year studying abroad at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto where she fell in love with Japan’s history and culture. Upon graduating, Grace taught Japanese for over four years. She has assisted students with AP Japanese and JLPT test prep and led an 18-day study abroad trip in Japan in 2018. During the 2019-2021 school years, Grace worked as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) at junior high schools in Japan. She continued her Japanese studies and earned the JLPT N2. This workshop will be conducted via Zoom. Attendees must have a device with audio and video capabilities, as well as an internet connection.
