2022 Annual Sake Tasting and Lecture
Friday, July 15, 2022 | 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Our Annual Sake Program is Back!
After successful online programs in 2020 and 2021, the sake tasting and lecture returns as in-person event. This is one of the Society’s most popular annual programs and a highlight of our summer schedule. We will have a guided experience led by our friends at Sake Social, complemented with local Japanese cuisine. For the first time in the event’s history, we will also add shochu to our menu. This distilled alcoholic beverage typically comes from rice, barley, sweet potatoes, buckwheat, or brown sugar. Please see below for the spirits that we will feature for our 2022 program.

Presenter:
Marisela Maddox
Marisela is the co-founder of Sake Social. Born and raised in Texas, her experience with Japanese culture was limited to Ramen noodles, her little brother’s Pokemon trading cards, and pictures of Japan in National Geographic. After graduating with a communications degree and a law degree, she did some soul-searching and found myself wanting something a bit more fun, creative, and different. Every aspect of this business from sourcing new products, working with importers, creating new content, and getting to know her wonderful customers has been meaningful. Even the challenge of figuring out how to ship alcohol into each of the 50 states has been a fun challenge. The best parts are 1) suggesting brews to novice drinkers and having them come back to try more and 2) sharing a multi-generation brewery’s story with her customers. Sake Social has come to be one of her most exciting adventures.
