[ONLINE EVENT] Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership – I Love Yu! Japanese Bath Houses, Hot Springs, and How to Soak Up at Home
Saturday, July 18, 2020 | 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
From natural hot springs (onsen) to public bath houses (sento), bathing in piping hot water (yu) is firmly embedded in Japanese culture and daily life. So why do Japanese people love taking baths?
The beautiful bath houses are an art unto themselves, and have historically provided an inviting space for communities around the country. Plus, research shows that bathing reduces anxiety, improves quality of sleep, and reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Join our online event with special guest speakers Stéphanie Crohin, Author and Sento Ambassador, and Hayasaka Shinya MD PhD, Bath & Hot Spring Medical Researcher, as they discuss Japan’s long history of bath culture, the art of public bath houses, the science behind Japanese bathing habits, and how everyone can try these practices in the comfort of their own home.
Presentations will be followed by a live Q&A. This event is free via YouTube Live.
