2023 North Texas Japan Bowl
Saturday, November 11, 2023
The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth brings the National Japan Bowl to North Texas!
High school students from all across the state can form teams sponsored by a teacher and compete for top prize in a trivia competition centered around Japan! History, Language, Art, Music, Geography, Economics, Politics, and everything in between will comprise the questions of our inaugural competition.
What is the Japan Bowl?
Japan Bowl is an annual knowledge competition held at both the regional and national level. Teams of high school students from New York to Guam compete as they put their study of Japanese language, culture, history, geography, politics, and more to the test. The winning team from each regional competition will continue on to compete at the National Japan Bowl held in Washington D.C. every April.
What is the North Texas Japan Bowl?
The North Texas Japan Bowl is the regional competition in Texas hosted by Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth. Teams from High Schools across the great state of Texas will travel to a location in North Texas (This year is the University of North Texas in Dallas) to compete at the North Texas Japan Bowl. These High School Students will compete head-to-head in their knowledge of all things Japan. With Questions covering Language, Politics, History, Geography, Economics, Arts, Literature, and Popular Culture, the team placing first will be sent by JASDFW (airfare covered) to compete in the National Japan Bowl held in Washington DC!
How Can I Participate?
Students:
you and two of your friends can form a team, study after school, and with the help of a sponsor teacher, enter the Japan Bowl Competition! You will need your own transportation to the location of the North Texas Japan Bowl and a sponsoring teacher to participate.
Educators:
Do you have students who want to participate? Sponsor your team or teams by entering them into the North Texas Japan Bowl. You must be present at the competition for your students.
Parents:
Cheer your students on! Help them study or come and support them as they compete. You may also volunteer to help make sure everything runs smoothly at the North Texas Japan Bowl.
Community:
Donate to JASDFW to help us buy prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. Volunteer your time to help the event run smoothly. Are you a native speaker of Japanese, we need your help to be a Proctor or Judge!
Why Support Japan Bowl?
In a 2021 survey of the National Japan Bowl students, 98% of students intend to continue studying Japanese in College, and nearly 90% want to study abroad in Japan. Many cite their participation in their Regional Japan Bowls as inspiration for them to continue pursuing their study of Japan and its language.
