Immerse yourself in the strong and energetic sounds of Tsugaru-shamisen with a special performance by an award-winning soloist, Akira Esashika.
The shamisen is a three-stringed traditional Japanese musical instrument. Today one of the most recognized genres of shamisen music is Tsugaru-shamisen, a style of playing and instrument with roots in the small peninsula of Tsugaru in present-day Aomori prefecture.

Esashika was born in Aomori, Japan and raised listening to his father’s Tsugaru-shamisen. He has more than 40 years of performance experience and won multiple national championships. He performed at San Diego, CA in 2014 and at Dallas, TX in 2018.
