[ONLINE EVENT] The Japan America Society of Chicago – Japan’s Response to COVID-19

Fukushima is a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, a public policy think tank headquartered in Washington, D.C., where he focuses on U.S.-East Asia relations. He divides his time between Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and Tokyo. A native of California, he was educated at Stanford University, Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Harvard Business School, and Harvard Law School.

From 1990 to 2012, Fukushima was based in Tokyo as a senior executive with several major multinational corporations, including as vice president of AT&T Japan Ltd.; president of Arthur D. Little Japan; president and CEO of Cadence Design Systems Japan; president and CEO of NCR Japan; and president and CEO of Airbus Japan. He also served two terms as president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan from 1998 to 1999 and vice president from 1993 to 1997. Before embarking on his business career, he was based in Washington, D.C., as director for Japanese Affairs (1985–1988) and deputy assistant of U.S. Trade Representative for Japan and China (1988–1990) at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
